THE STORY

Vegetable-tanned,

by nature.

Verniny leather is produced through a traditional, eco-friendly tanning process — without chemical surface coatings. That’s what gives it character: the surface breathes, absorbs, and develops a unique patina over time. Small marks, varied texture, even visible grain are part of the story, not defects.

A few simple habits will help your piece age beautifully for years to come.

HOW TO CARE FOR IT

Four simple

habits.

01

Don't worry about small marks

As the leather absorbs natural oils from your hands, light scratches and surface marks settle into the material. With time, this is what gives Buttero its warm, lived-in patina — the natural beauty of vegetable-tanned leather, never something to hide.

02

If it gets wet

Gently blot the surface with a soft, dry cloth and let it dry slowly in a cool, shaded place. Avoid direct sunlight or heat — drying too quickly can cause uneven tanning and stiffness.

03

For minor scratches

Most light scratches fade on their own. Rub the area gently with clean fingertips — the natural oils from your skin help the leather close and recover. No products required.

04

Note on light fabrics

Because we use natural vegetable dyes, fresh pieces may transfer slight colour onto white or pale clothing — especially when new or damp. The effect lessens with use as the dye fully sets into the leather.

Leather isn't meant to stay new. It's meant to become yours.

WHAT YOU MIGHT NOTICE

Marks of
authentic leather.

Surface grain — natural pores and fine wrinkles unique to each hide.

Tendons & lines — visible structure from the original animal, never sanded away.

Tone variation — small differences in colour intensity across a single piece.

Healed marks — light scars or specks that show the leather lived before it became yours.

These traits are characteristic of fine Italian vegetable-tanned leather, not defects, and are not grounds for exchange.
